SRI CHINMOY BRINGS HIS MUSIC TO THE KIMMEL CENTER
AT A FREE CONCERT JUNE 22nd
(Philadelphia, May 22) Sri Chinmoy, the Indian musician and humanitarian, will bring his unique and uplifting music to Philadelphia, where he will offer a free concert on Thursday, June 22nd at Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. There will be two performances, at 6:00 and 8:30 pm.
Audiences in over 80 countries have enjoyed the power and beauty of Sri Chinmoy’s music at hundreds of free concerts, where he plays his own soulful compositions. He has performed to capacity crowds at New York’s Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, London’s Royal Albert Hall, Tokyo’s Budokan, and the Sydney Opera House. Sri Chinmoy’s 2006 world tour also includes concerts in Malaysia, France, Japan and Scotland.
A native of India who now lives in New York, Sri Chinmoy brings a global vision to his music. During the concert he will play his haunting compositions on over a dozen instruments from around the world. Listeners can enjoy the peaceful melodies of the echo flute, the ethereal tones of the ancient Indian esraj, and the thundering cascades of the grand piano.
Among the pieces to be performed at the Kimmel Center on June 22nd is a song that Sri Chinmoy wrote for Philadelphia. He has a special fondness for the “sweet City of Brotherly Love”, where he feels the heart and soul of America. He played to an audience of 10,000 at the CoreStates Spectrum in 1996.
The concert is being offered free of charge as a summer community event. Tickets are required, and can be reserved by calling 215-567-5000. You can also find a ticket request form and hear selections from Sri Chinmoy’s music at www.srichinmoyconcert.org.
